Founders Maya and Patrick Thona, along with their staff at Good Heart Hospice & Palliative Care, are dedicated to serving patients with quality, dignity, and care, but with a focus on helping reduce any uncertainty and suffering, allowing patients to maintain a level of dignity.
“While taking care of my patients, I will not take advantage of their situation to earn more money to myself,” said (Maya) Thona. ” At Good Heart, taking care of other people’s family members as if they were my own is what we are all about. And that’s our mission.”
In fact, at Good Heart Hospice, families get the benefit of the ‘No-Cost Consultation’, which offers them answers to all questions and better helps prepare them and their beloved family member for what they can expect next.
This program begins with a caregiver visit to where the families already are, helping them assess their unique needs and situations, providing them with feedback, and coming up with an ideal plan for their family member who is bound for patient care. Additionally, all forms of insurance are accepted as part of being admitted to Good Heart Hospice.
Hospice Industry Shortcomings
A 2018 report from the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services, recorded hospice practices over the course of a decade. It found that hospices did not always provide optimal care and services to patients and that some facilities were even below- or of poor quality as well. Additionally, some families even reported not receiving vital information about their loved ones from the hospice centers.
By 2016, a report by OIG, titled Vulnerabilities in the Medicare Hospice indicated that, Medicare hospice payments, which were continually on the rise, grew to $16.7 billion, despite there were inadequacies and cases of neglect of patient care.
The industry is sometimes overshadowed by allegations and cases of abuse and fraud. But don’t let the actions of a few outshine the noble deeds of centers like Good Heart Hospice.
The Solution to Said Shortcomings
The Thona family and their Good Heart Hospice staff are consistently on the clock and provide above-standard care and support to patients. Fact is, hospice is a necessary industry and helps families offer support to their loved ones. Patients should be able to focus on their lives without any care and have their needs met.
Considering today’s climate, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, patients and their families certainly need to collectively be put at ease. The mission at Good Heart Hospice remains the same, to promote an ideal quality of life, convenience, and comfort for all patients.
